Increased
traffic at Oakland International Airport necessitated various projects to
enhance the overall function of the airport.
These projects included expansion of the baggage claim area, relocation
of the taxi driver’s lounge and relocation and expansion of the international
passenger lounge. Currently there
is a need to move some 50 small aircraft hangars with associated paving, wetland
and utility problems.
KKCS
provided Project Management services in the areas of Project Controls.
KKCS staff performed duties as part of the integrated MWM team with
specific responsibilities that included: facilities assessments, cost estimating
and schedule support. KKCS staff
has participated in the construction phase of the project with management and
client interface at all levels.

The
project includes general upgrade of existing facilities with the incorporation
of new baggage handling equipment and building renovation.
Architectural, structural, civil, mechanical and electrical improvements
were made.
KKCS
provided
design review and feasibility studies together with cost estimation at each
phase of the design development procedure.
This provided a value-added function to the design team and allowed the
client to decide on alternate solutions to provide needed scope within budget.

Increased
traffic at Reno Airport, in addition to the imminent effect of a national
convention, required the fast track design and construction of additional
baggage handling facilities within the existing building.
Structural and mechanical design was the most difficult to accommodate
while providing a pleasing architectural ambience.
Several schemes were investigated to provide the required operational
service increase within budget constraints.
Provided
design review and feasibility studies together with cost estimation at each
phase of the design development procedure.
The cost estimation performed by KKCS was of particular importance on
this project to control the design function within allowable budget constraints.
Finally KKCS participated as civil/structural designer and cost estimator
for all disciplines on an intensive value engineering study trimming $1-million
from the previous $7-million estimated cost.
