El Cerrito Del Norte Station Modernization

The goal of this station modernization project is to upgrade the station’s function, safety, capacity, sustainability, and appearance, while improving customer experience, and reducing fare evasion. The project includes the construction of an expanded pay area, new elevators and stairs, a glass stair and elevator enclosure, new station agent booth and fare gates, and restroom facilities.

As the project manager, KKCS has developed civil, structural, and electrical systems designs. This includes a new passenger and ADA van drop-off area, relocation of the west parking lot entrance, and new sidewalks. Although the project encountered significant design changes throughout the design phase, the KKCS team accommodated the changes and achieved a biddable and cost competitive design at under 10 percent of the total construction cost estimate, which is significantly below industry benchmarks for a project of such complexity.
