As a part of the KKCS Project Management Oversight Contract with the Federal Transit Administration we have been awarded Task Orders at transit properties including San Bernardino (sbX), Riverside (PVL), AC Transit and MBTA.
San Bernardino sbX
The E Street Corridor Bus Rapid Transit Project (referred to as sbX) will operate along the E Street Corridor in San Bernardino, California. The project consists of 15.7 miles of combined mixed-use and dedicated BRT alignment; sixteen station locations; four park-and-ride facilities; and fourteen articulated, five-door, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles. Ridership is projected at 9,013 passengers per day in the opening year, 2013. The project is currently estimated to cost $191.7 Million.
Riverside
The Perris Valley Line (PVL) Commuter Rail Project will extend Metrolink commuter rail service approximately 24 miles to the southeast utilizing the San Jacinto Branch Line (SJBL) travel corridor. The alignment will begin at the current Metrolink terminus in downtown Riverside, California to a new terminus at South Perris, California, with four stations in-between. Some stations will include park-and-ride facilities and the South Perris Station will include a layover facility. The corridor will include a combination of single and double track and will be shared with BNSF freight operations. The work scope includes construction of a new connector loop from the BNSF line to SJBL in the vicinity of Citrus Street; track and roadbed upgrades along the single track sections; installation of new double-tracking along the I-215; and signaling system installations for commuter rail operations. Ridership is forecasted for 16,325 passengers in 2030. The project is currently estimated to cost $232.7 Million.
AC Transit
As part of its East Bay Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, AC Transit is proposing to upgrade transit service in downtown Berkeley, California and the city's southside. This project would construct bus-only lanes and light rail-like station structures along an 18-mile long stretch from downtown Berkeley and UC Berkeley in the north to Bay Fair BART in the south. The system would allow buses to offer riders a rail-like transit experience that operates more quickly and reliably than regular bus service today.
MBTA
In Boston, MA KKCS has been asked to provide PMOC services to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). KKCS has been charged with providing services to the FTA on five projects including:
Green Line Extension. The Green Line Extension (a.k.a. Green Line) will be an FFGA project that will extend existing service from the Lechmere Station to Somerville and Medford. The alignment will be constructed within an existing operating railroad and includes both light rail and commuter rail elements. Assembly Square Orange Line Station. The Assembly Square Orange Line Station (a.k.a. Assembly Square) is an exempt New Starts project located in Somerville, MA. The project is currently estimated at $47.7 million and is submitting justification for FTA approval to enter Final Design.
Fitchburg Commuter Rail. The Fitchburg Commuter Rail (a.k.a Fitchburg) will be a PCGA project that will upgrade existing service through systemwide track improvements, installation of additional track, improvements to signal and communication systems, construction of high level accessible platforms, and improvements to grade-crossings. The project is recommended for funding in the FY 11 New Starts Report and a Project Construction Grant Agreement (PCGA) is planned for August 2010.
Fitchburg and Haverhill Commuter Rail Line Improvements. The Fitchburg and Haverhill Commuter Rail Line Improvements (a.k.a. Haverhill) are comprised of two projects financed through American Rehabilitation and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds and include commuter rail cross-over work and installation of double track sections that are currently single track. Construction is underway.
Wonderland Station Parking Garage. The Wonderland Station Parking Garage (a.k.a. Wonderland) is an approximate 1,963-space parking structure with adjacent roadway improvements that will enhance commuter and bus access to the existing Blue Line Wonderland Station as well as improve pedestrian safety.
