LACCD - BuildLACCD Program Safety Oversight

The District’s $9.5 billion BuildLACCD Program is funded mainly by bonds approved by Los Angeles voters:

  • 2001 – Proposition A: $1.245 billion
  • 2003 – Proposition AA: $980 million
  • 2008 – Measure J: $3.5 billion
  • 2016 – Measure CC: $3.3 billion

LACCD comprises nine colleges that serve approximately 250,000 students annually, covers 882 square miles, and serves 36 different cities. LACCD is also a leader in environmentally responsible construction. Thanks to its Sustainable Building Program, LACCD is modernizing its colleges and building more than 40 new structures district-wide that will meet LEED standards. In addition, LACCD is generating solar power on its campuses and taking necessary steps to reduce the colleges' carbon footprint.

KKCS’ Regional Safety Manager was responsible for safety oversight of four campuses: Pierce, Mission, Valley, and City College. KKCS performs safety oversight of building remodels, demolitions, and new construction. KKCS reviewed plans; interviewed safety managers that work for the general contractors; attends team meetings, contractor start-up meetings, and weekly progress meetings; and performed daily site safety audits with contractor safety managers.
